Las luces de posición situadas en los faros traseros de un vehículo sirven para que este resulte mucho más visible a los conductores que vengan detrás. Deben conectarse al mismo tiempo que las delanteras. Las luces de freno deben ir montadas de forma simétrica y activarse cada vez que el conductor acciona el pedal de freno. Son de color rojo y su función es advertir a los conductores que vienen detrás de que el vehículo va a reducir su velocidad. En algunas ocasiones, las luces de freno están combinadas con las de posición en un mismo dispositivo. La diferencia entre unas y otras está entonces determinada por la intensidad y la brillantez.
